Backed by the Speed Science Institute led by Dr. Ken Clark, they've created a standardized way to evaluate athletes in the four core areas I talk about: max velocity, acceleration, change of direction, and power.
The Universal Speed Rating combines four standardized tests into a single, verified score on a 0–99 scale.
Top-end speed is the trait that separates athletes. We measure how fast an athlete can truly fly at full flight.
The first steps win plays. We measure how violently an athlete builds speed and gets the body moving.
Speed you can't control is wasted. We measure stopping, re-planting, and re-accelerating under control.
Explosive force is the engine behind every sprint. We measure raw lower-body power off the ground.
My first rule: time everything. When every sprint is recorded, speed becomes the number that matters and breaking a personal best delivers a hit of dopamine that's flat-out addicting. Chasing that high is what helps makes athletes faster.
Cats are freaky competitive. Rank the times and they fight to climb the board. And because every USR is measured the same way across the country, your athletes don't just see where they stand on your team, they see exactly how they compare to athletes everywhere.
I published my rankings in the hallway for everyone to see. When results are public for teammates, parents, and recruiters, athletes come back to beat their best, and fast times turn into recognition.
